Founder : Mr. Late- Aruru Subbaraya Bhat & Kamalamma

 

Mr. Subbaraya Bhat comes from a Shivalli Brahmin family whose Ancestors were Agriculturist. Mr. Subbaraya Bhat was wonderful chef from the beginning of his career and owned three restaurants and a sweet stall in Udupi (base of south canara). Later, he moved to Herritage city Mysore in 1940 and exposed his talent by establishing a small restaurant called as “Brahmana Palahara Mandira” (people use to call it as Bhatru Hotel). Here the food was served on the banana leafs and wooden planks (called as ‘Mane’) to sit on it.

Sri Gayathri Tiffen Room is an offshoot of “Brahmana Palahara Mandira” on early 1960s. in the prime location of Chamundipuram. Ramachandra S Bhat, late-Srinivasan S Bhat, Gururaj S Bhat and late-Raghavendra S Bhat who are the four sons of late-Subbaraya Bhat and pillars of this establishment.

 

Why GTR:

GTR – means Sri Gayathri Tiffin Room.

Sri Gayathri is our root Goddess and Tiffin Room is because, this establishment started with only Tiffin section in Morning and Evening (no Lunch / Dinner).

GTR is a destination for most Mysoreans who prefer to savor Authentic South Indian dishes.
